Intuitive movement, drawing and jewellery making workshop. Sunday 21st Jan. Leeds
This event is at Hyde Park Book Club, LS61BL 10am-1pm on Sunday 21st Jan 2024.
In this three(ish!) hour workshop, you will design and make a piece of silver or brass jewellery through intuitive process.
We will work through a series of movement prompts in order to use our bodies as a tool to process and express emotion, feeling and sensation. There is no right or wrong way to move. This will be a relaxed and meditative experience, so please do not be scared :) From here, we will record these movements by drawing and mark making on a large scale. Think huge rolls of paper on the walls and floor, eek!
These drawings, abstract shapes and wiggly lines will act as a base for you jewellery design.
The empahsis here will be on channeling feeling through movement, space and shape. Absolutely no movement, drawing or jewellery making experience is required. The aim here is to be playful and use imaginative and abstract techniques to make a tangible thing.
In addition to jewellery making, I am a qualified yoga teacher and lead movement sessions, so you are safe with me. Please do make me aware of any injuries, accessibility needs before and via email ([email protected]).
You will:
- Be guided through a series of prompts that will encourage a fluid, expressive and intuitive approach to moving your body. We will have time to be playful. This will not be a strenuous workout.
- Flow from intuitive movement to large scale intuitive drawing using charcoal, paper and our bodies. Intuitive drawing is an amazing way to work with your inner world.
- After moving and mark making, you will select a drawing or part of your drawing that you would like to make in metal. I will guide you through the process of turning this shape into a piece of jewellery: whether this is a pair of earrings, a ring or necklace.
- You will shape and hammer your choice of recycled sterling silver or recycled brass wire into this design, using jewellery making tools. This is a simple process and suitable for beginners.
Please note, due to the constraints of the venue, we cannot use blowtorches or any soldering equipment on site. As such, your piece will be finished and polished by me after the workshop and posted out around one week after the event.
All materials are included. The shipping cost covers the postage of your final piece of jewellery after the workshop. Please select your intended items to make from the ticket options.
